Cities of Montenegro Bucket List

Visit Budva, a historic coastal town in Montenegro. Explore the Old Town (Stari Grad) with its Venetian walls and citadel, relax on Mogren Beach (two connected sandy coves beneath cliffs), and see the Sveti Stefan island-hotel (a 15th-century fortified village turned luxury resort).

Visit Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro. Explore the Millennium Bridge (a modern cable-stayed bridge over the Morača River), see the historic Clock Tower in the Old Town, and relax in King's Park (a green space with monuments and city views).

Baroque palaces facing Our Lady of the Rocks, an artificial island built from sunk ships and stones.

A town of stairs, a Mimosa festival in February and three fortresses at the mouth of the Bay of Kotor.

A walled medieval town at the end of a fjord-like bay, with 1,350 steps up to the fortress of St John.

A 12-kilometre sand beach, an old pirate town on a rock and the Ada Bojana river island.

The old royal capital in a mountain valley, with former embassies and the monastery of St Peter.
